Gone and finished

The half hour I spent talking with Sandra didn’t really fix anything, but was not entirely without merit. Amongst other things she asked why I was there, and my best explanation was that I just wanted someone to talk to who isn’t on my side: it is a rare friend whose sympathies will not be informed by that friendship, and that has the potential to undermine their objectivity.

But then she went and spoiled it all by saying something stupid like …

Well, it doesn’t really matter what she said, Dear Reader, but in the context it was at best, misguided. (And having canvassed the opinions of others, I am not alone in that opinion.) It was something that showed we are not on the same page on a fundamental point. And after a brief ensuing conversation, by mutual agreement, it seems unlikely that I will be talking to Sandra again.
